The world body’s Executive Board has just adopted six declarations that strongly condemn the Israeli aggressions against Palestinian cultural and historical heritage.
Earlier, the State of Palestine and Hashemite Jordanian Kingdom had submitted documents to UNESCO’s 192nd Session over the issue of Israel’s violation of the Arab country’s cultural heritage. Therefore, majority of the members voted in favour of the decisions, which strongly condemned Israeli aggression against the cultural and historical heritage of Jerusalem, Hebron, Bethlehem and Gaza.
Members were worried about Israel’s consistent illegal excavations in and around the Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls.
Israel, however, keeps preventing UNESCO delegation of experts to visit the violated sites in the occupied city of Jerusalem. But Israel’s representative at UNESCO opposed the decision of the world body, describing it as biased.
