Following news of the murder of two reporters in recent days, in Iraq, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), has expressed concern about the safety of journalists in the country.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova said: "I condemn the killing of Adel Mohsen Hussien and Wahdan Al-Hamdani," Bokova stated in a press release.
Bokova urged the Iraqi authorities investigate and bring “justice those responsible for crimes against media workers that affect the whole of Iraqi society."
Adel Mohsen Hussien, 43, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the city of Mosul in northern Iraq on December 2. Hussien, a writer and journalist who worked for a number of Iraqi media organisations as, well as representative of the Iraqi Journalists Rights Defense Association.
Also, TV journalist Wahdan Al-Hamdani was killed on November 27 while covering a funeral in Basra. Al-Hamdani worked as a cameraman for Baghdad-based satellite channel Al Taghee.
