Online photography contest marks International Museum Day (IMD)

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is sponsoring a photo contest tagged Me In My Museum to celebrate the 35th anniversary of International Museum Day.

The 2012 IMD is themed Museums in a Changing World. New Challenges, New Inspirations.
Upon this occasion, the world museum body ICOM launched a photo contest for museum lovers and budding photographers of all ages. This contest celebrates museums around the world through each participant’s perspective and marks the IMD anniversary in an original and playful way.

On their own, with friends or family, participants are invited to take a photo of themselves in their favourite museum with the International Museum Day Badge on display.

An international jury will reward the best picture on 18 May, which must be original and dynamic, highlighting the badge and the museum.

Submissions from all around the world are expected, and are already being shared online. The best photograph will also be featured in the June issue of ICOM News, and the winner will receive a “surprise bag” full of goodies from museum stores around the world.

  1. This will definitely rouse the interest of young people in history because it seems that they are losing interest in going to museums nowadays. Using photography, which is becoming a popular hobby among them, will definitely get their attention. Moreover, giving them a chance to have their work shown on the Internet for the world to see would motivate them to revisit their past and capture them in pictures.
