Ukala wins USD$100,000 Nigerian literature prize 2014


Sam Ukala, a professor of Theatre Arts at Delta State University, Abraka, has been announced as the winner of The Nigeria Prize for Literature 2014.

The prize worth USD$100,000 was given to Ukala for his periodic play, Iredid War, based on colonialism and the author’s Owa community’s resistance against British rule. Ukala defeated Jude Idada (Oduduwa King of the Edos) and Friday John-Abba  (Alekwu Night Dance) to pick the NLNG Literature Prize, which took off with 124 entries early this year.
