For 10th anniversary, artists guild show 'Creme de la creme'

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Guild of Professional Fine Artists of Nigeria (GFA), which kicked off the four  months long line up of events In September continues with a group art exhibition.

Titled Creme de la creme, the exhibition opens from Saturday, December 1 - 8, 2018 at Omenka Gallery, Ikoyi, Lagos. Abiodun Olaku, Ade Ogundimu, Alex Nwokolo, Ben Ibebe, Bimbo Adenugba, Bunmi Babatunde, Edosa Ogiugo, Emenike Ogwo, Francis Uduh, Gab Awusa, Gbenga Offo, Gerry Nnubia, Hamid Ibrahim, Joshua Nmesirionye, Juliet Ezenwa Maja-Pearce,  kehinde Sanwo,  Lekan Onabanjo,  Nobert Okpu, Nsikak Essien, Odogwo Eze Fidelis, Osagie Aimufia, Sam Ebohon, Tayo Quaye and Tony Oshiame are the GFA 10th anniversary exhibiting artists.

"GFA is 10 years old this year and with thanks and gratitude to God, I can confidently say that we have accomplished our aims and objectives in reference to positioning the Nigerian art and creative industry in its deserving place", said president of the guild, Ebohon. "As the artistic and creative landscape is becoming more interesting and engaging, we as GFA take pride in the fact that you cannot but mention the role of this great association and the sacrifices of its members during the early years of art appreciation spanning from the late 70s till present day".

Ebohon who is barely one year old in office as president eulogised the founders of the guild on what he described as their bravery through uncertain and unpredictable hurdles. He specifically noted their "investing and immersing themselves in the love and passion for art and thereby spearheading the acceptance of artists in the school of professionals in Nigeria".

Listing the changes in the sector, Ebohon explained that as the years go by there is a gentle but sure transformation in the artist topic and style. He added that the narratives and appreciation has also changed. For the anniversary exhibition, he said: "we have put together a number of works that we hope will speak of our Journey so far and also reflect on the strength and gravity of Nigerian art".

Activities marking the anniversary had included 'Art Workshop & Demonstration in September, at Ovie Brume Foundation, Victoria Island, Lagos. Also, a seminar was held at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos.
