Arthouse's 21st auction shows Enwonwu, Onobrakpeya other masters

As art from Africa is one of the fastest growing  global  art markets, the 21st edition of Arthouse auction will feature works from the modern period and cutting-edge contemporary masters of the region’s most celebrated artists. This edition of the auction, according to Arthouse, will feature modern masters such as Ben Enwonwu, Bruce Onobrakpeya, Ben
Osawe, Chuks Anyanwu, Abayomi Barber, Ablade Glover, Rufus Ogundele, Kolade Oshinowo, Uzo Egonu, Emmanuel Ekefrey and  Gani Odutokun.

 Scheduled to hold on Monday, May 27, 2019 at the Kia Showroom, 308 Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, previews start from Saturday, May 25, 11 a.m-6 p.m to Sunday, 26 (12 p.m-6 p.m) and Monday (10 a.m-1 p.m). The auction will be led by auctioneer, John Dabney.

Leading contemporary artists  in  the auction include  Peju Alatise, Alimi Adewale,  Lemi Ghariokwu,  Dominique Zinkpe, Ola-Dele Kuku, Chidi Kwubiri, Duke Asidere, Rom Isichei, Chike Obeagu, Ben  Osaghae and Kainebi Osahenye, among others.

Specifically, top lots of the evening include Enwonwu’s Ogolo, a 1992 watercolour on paper, in addition  to  two  other Enwonwu watercolours and a  contemporary mixed media work by Malian artist Abdoulaye Konaté.

The auction will include seven charity lots that have been generously donated to support the second edition of the Lagos Biennial, which holds on October 26-November 30, 2019. The Charity lots are by  Enwonwu, David Dale, Uche Okpa-Iroha, Duke Asidere and Bisi  Fakeye. "Funds  raised from these  charity lots will directly support the Lagos Biennial’s five-week-long international exposition of art and culture."

The 21st auction is supported by Kia Showroom, Le Connaisseur, 7UP, Chocolat Royal and The Guardian.

Founded in 2007, Arthouse Contemporary is an international auction house that specialises in modern and contemporary art from West Africa. With auctions held three times a year in Lagos, Arthouse Contemporary aims to create awareness of the scope of contemporary art in the  region,  encourage international  recognition  towards  its  talented  artists,  and  strengthen the economy of its art market.
