'Madam Tinubu' star, Bose Adewoyin dies at 60

 Actress, Abosede Adewoyin, who became famous for her role as Madam Tinubu and Mama Onimama, according to a close family friend, passed on, Tuesday, June 23, 2020.

A press statement signed by artist and theatre art practitioner, Mufu Onifade said the deceased actress "was buried the same day."


Onifade who recalled living with the Adewoyin family for three years in his school days at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, noted that the actress fondly called Aunty Bose in the Arts circle, "was a quintessential actress, dancer and costumier." Adedoyin played Madam Tinubu in a play titled 'Efunroye Tinubu', written by Prof Akinwumi Isola and directed by Gbenga Adewusi in 1989. Efunroye Tinubu was later adapted for Television, becoming a screen hit all through 1989/1990.

"She was a member of the contingent of (Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture) that performed Funmi Odusolu's famous dance musical, 'Ori' (Destiny) when the state hosted the then Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, in 1984," Onifade stated. The play, he recalled, toured Nigeria later in 1986, was also taken to some cities in U.S.


Onifade noted that Adewoyin's contributions to the development of theatre in Nigeria included her works in costume for many stage and screen productions.She acted alongside Adebayo Salami (Oga Bello) in Funke Akindele's film, 'Omo Ghetto'. Adewoyin played Mama Onimama while Salami was Baba Onibaba in the film.


Adewoyin was under the employment of Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture, representing the state in many editions of the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFEST). She also took part in many of the council's plays and dance productions. She remained active in the profession till she breathed her last.
